Income Taxes In the first quarter of 2013, we recorded a tax benefit of approximately $2.6 million that resulted from the retroactive extension of the U.S. federal research and development tax credit for 2012 when the American Taxpayer Relief Act was signed into law on January 2, 2013. The federal research and development tax credit benefit recorded was offset by a full valuation allowance and as such no income tax benefit was ultimately recognized for the period ended March 31, 2013.
